Find an Available Domain Name

FAQs

  • Can you help me understand the terminology?

Here is a simple analogy to help understand the terms we are using. A domain name is essentially an address on the world wide web. Think of it as a phone number. But a phone number is not really "active" until there is a telephone at that number. A web site, then, is like the telephone at a specific phone number to accept incoming calls. But you have a cell phone, and you want people to always reach you at that other number, so instead of putting a telephone at the new phone number, you forward calls to your cell phone. That is a redirect. On this site, you will be setting up new, personalized domain names, and we will redirect these new domain names to your existing page on Nationwide™.com.

  • What makes a good domain name?

Keep it simple. This is the most important quality for your domain name! A good domain name is one that is easily remembered by your clients and one that would be obvious if they were looking for you on the internet.

Keep it relevant. The first and best choice for your domain name will be simply YourName.com. If that is unavailable, append something to your name, e.g. RobertSmithAgency.com.

Decide on an extension. The most common extension at this time is ".com". But as .com addresses are used up, the other extensions are becoming increasingly popular, and in a short while they will be as obvious to a web surfer as .com names are today.

  • Should I have more than one domain?

Generally speaking, it is a good idea to register all the domain names that a client might reasonably try when they are searching for you on the internet.

Nicknames. If you are often called by a nickname, it is advisable to register both names that you are commonly called. If your name is Robert Smith and most people call you Bob, you should probably register both RobertSmith.com and BobSmith.com.

Misspellings. It is advisable to obtain domain names for common misspellings of your name. For instance, if your name is Robert Smythe, you may decide to register "RobertSmith" and "RobertSmyth" as well as "RobertSmythe".

Extensions. Again, .com names are most common today, but as those are used up, other extensions are becoming more popular. You might register RobertSmith.com today and have someone else register RobertSmith.name. This could be an issue depending how this similar domain name is used.

Associate Agents. If you have an Associate Agent in a satellite office, you will most likely have a separate page on Nationwide™.com for that office. It is advisable to purchase a domain name for that associate agent as well, and redirect that domain name to the page for the satellite office on Nationwide™.com.

If you choose not to register these alternative addresses, be aware that someone else could do so in the future.

  • How will email work with my new domains?

Email addresses can also be redirected. You can create simple, easily remembered email addresses that forward emails to the email account you use today. You would continue to access email in exactly the way to which you are accustomed. As you choose each new domain name, you will be given the opportunity to add email addresses, and you may choose as many email addresses as you like for each new domain. For example, let's say you have just registered RobertSmith.com. You could set up your own email address as Robert@RobertSmith.com. Then, you could set up an email address for each member of your staff in whatever manner you choose (eg, Alex@RobertSmith.com, Quote@RobertSmith.com, Info@RobertSmith.com). Each new email address would be redirected to an email account you already use. As your staff changes, revisit this site to add and remove email addresses by selecting the "Existing Customers" button.

  • What is the cost?

Annual domain pricing, before any discounts, is as follows:

    1 yr 2 yrs 3 yrs 4 yrs 5 yrs
    $65 / yr $60 / yr $55 / yr $50 / yr $45 / yr

Additional discounts are available for purchasing mulitple domains. With the purchase of two domain names, you would receive 10% off your entire order. Buy three domain names gets you 15% off. Purchase four or more domain names and you'll receive 20% off your entire order.

Unlimited email redirects are $6.00 per year, per domain.
